I’ve done a lot of walking around the Wantage area over the last year, probably paying more attention to the changing seasons than ever before.

Where the meadowsweet grows,
On the margins, in the hedgerows,
Honeysuckle, dog rose
Cuckoo calling, walking green roads
Home.

Ancient, sun-bleached carving
By the ridge-path, skylarks singing,
Chamomile scent mingling
With the warmth that you are bringing
Home.

Harvest, stubble, wheatsheaves,
Woodland bounty, spinning gold leaves,
Windfalls, bonfire smoke wreathes,
Starlings shimmer as the way leads
Home.

Bare oak, Yuletide solstice,
Holly, ivy, mistletoe kiss,
Redbreast in the snow is
Our companion who will guide us
Home.
